Change the language on a Shimano STEPS SC-E6100, SC-E7000 or SC-E8000
These displays carry six languages in firmware and you switch between them in the [Setting] menu on the display itself.
Step by step
- Stop the bike and switch the system on. Press and hold the assist switch's X (down) and Y (up) buttons at the same time until the [Setting] menu appears. On an SC-E6100 without a switch you can also hold the display's own function button.
- Scroll with the X and Y buttons; confirm with the A (function/light) button.
- Scroll to [Language] and press A.
- Pick English, French, German, Dutch, Italian or Spanish and press A.
- Scroll to [Exit] and press A.
- The menu labels change immediately; no restart needed.
Tip: If you can't read the current language, count: [Language] is usually the item right after [Unit] in the list. Menu order is fixed across languages.
Can't find it?
Your language is not in the list: Shimano only ships those six on this generation. Newer SC-EM800 displays add more. There is no way to load extra languages.
Frequently asked
The bike is set to Japanese or a language I can't read. How do I get to Language?
Open the [Setting] menu, then scroll to the item that sits right after the unit setting (it shows km/mile). That is [Language]. The list order does not change with language.
Does the E-TUBE app language follow the display?
No. The app follows your phone's language. The display language is set separately on the display.
Can the dealer add another language?
No. The language pack is part of display firmware and cannot be extended.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
