Switch the lights on and off on a Shimano STEPS SC-E6100, SC-E7000 or SC-E8000

Shimano STEPS SC-E6100 / SC-E7000 / SC-E8000

If the lights are wired to the drive unit, the A button (the one with the light symbol) toggles them. If nothing happens, the lights are either powered separately or the light output was never enabled in E-TUBE.

Step by step

  1. Switch the bike on.
  2. Press the A button (light symbol) on the switch, or on the SC-E6100 the button on the display. A light icon appears on the screen.
  3. Press A again to switch off.
  4. For auto mode: open E-TUBE Project, select the drive unit and set [Light] to auto (light sensor) or always-on if the option is offered.
Tip: Lights that stay on permanently are usually a bike-brand choice (StVZO-style daytime running lights). E-TUBE Project shows whether the brand locked this.

Can't find it?

Light icon appears but the lamp stays dark: the drive unit is sending power, so check the light cable at the front connector and the lamp itself. If the icon does not appear at all, [Light] is set to OFF/'not connected' in E-TUBE Project.

Frequently asked

Why does the A button do nothing?

Either the lights are not powered by the drive unit (own battery or dynamo) or the light output is disabled in E-TUBE Project. Check the [Light] setting there first.

Can I make the lights come on automatically?

If the bike brand enabled it, E-TUBE Project offers automatic light control using the display's ambient sensor.

Do the lights use much battery?

A few watts. Even permanently on it costs well under 5 % of range.
