Change units (mph to km/h) on a Shimano STEPS SC-E6100, SC-E7000 or SC-E8000

Shimano STEPS SC-E6100 / SC-E7000 / SC-E8000

The unit setting lives in the display's own settings menu, so you do not need the E-TUBE app for this one. Takes about thirty seconds.

Step by step

  1. Stop the bike and switch the system on. Press and hold the assist switch's X (down) and Y (up) buttons at the same time until the [Setting] menu appears. On an SC-E6100 without a switch you can also hold the display's own function button.
  2. Scroll with the X and Y buttons; confirm with the A (function/light) button.
  3. Scroll to [Unit] and press A.
  4. Choose [km] or [mile] and press A to confirm.
  5. Scroll to [Exit] and press A to return to the ride screen.
  6. Check the speed readout: it now shows km/h (or mph) and the odometer follows the same unit.
Tip: If the bike came from the UK or US second-hand, check [Language] and [Clock] in the same menu while you are there. They are usually wrong too.

Can't find it?

No [Unit] item in the menu: your display firmware is old or the menu was limited by the bike brand. Connect with E-TUBE Project, go to the display settings and change the unit there.

Frequently asked

Does changing units affect the speed limit?

No. The assist cut-off stays at the legal limit for the region the drive unit was configured for (25 km/h EU, 20 mph US). The unit only changes what the display shows.

Why did my display switch back to miles after a firmware update?

Some updates reset display preferences to default. Set the unit again through the same menu; it will stick.

Can I change units from the E-TUBE app instead?

Yes. E-TUBE Project (mobile) lists the display under connected units and offers the same km/mile choice.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
