Pair a Shimano STEPS SC-E6100, SC-E7000 or SC-E8000 with the E-TUBE Project and E-TUBE Ride apps

These displays have Bluetooth LE built in. Pairing usually fails for one of three reasons: Bluetooth is switched off in the display menu, the display is already paired to another phone, or the passkey is wrong.

Step by step

  1. Stop the bike and switch the system on. Press and hold the assist switch's X (down) and Y (up) buttons at the same time until the [Setting] menu appears. On an SC-E6100 without a switch you can also hold the display's own function button.
  2. Scroll to [Bluetooth LE] and set it to ON. Note the name shown (something like SC-E6100 followed by digits).
  3. On your phone: do not pair in the phone's Bluetooth settings. Open E-TUBE Project instead and tap the connect/Bluetooth icon.
  4. Select your display from the list. Enter the passkey when asked. Default is 000000 unless you or a previous owner changed it.
  5. Wait for the app to read all units (drive unit, battery, display, switch). This takes 10-30 seconds.
  6. For E-TUBE Ride: open it and choose the same display; it uses the same passkey.
  7. Keep the phone within a metre and the bike switched on for the whole session.
Tip: Only one phone can be connected at a time. If a family member's phone is still connected in the background, the app just sits on 'searching'. Kill E-TUBE on the other phone first.

Can't find it?

Passkey unknown after a second-hand purchase: a dealer can reset it with E-TUBE Project in dealer mode. You cannot reset it yourself without the old code.

Frequently asked

The display does not appear in the app's list.

Check [Bluetooth LE] is ON in the display menu, switch the bike off and on, and force-close the app. Also make sure the phone has location permission enabled for the app (Android needs it to scan for Bluetooth).

Which app do I need, E-TUBE Project or E-TUBE Ride?

E-TUBE Project is for settings and firmware. E-TUBE Ride is a ride screen and logbook. Most owners use both.

Pairing worked once, now it fails every time.

Forget the display in the phone's Bluetooth list if it appears there, then reconnect only through the app. Phone-level pairing conflicts with the app on many Android versions.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
