Customise ECO, TRAIL and BOOST assist on a Shimano STEPS SC-E6100, SC-E7000 or SC-E8000
The display only lets you pick a level; how strong each level is gets set in the E-TUBE Project app. On E7000 and E8000 you can tune each mode, on E6100 the range is narrower.
Step by step
- Install E-TUBE Project (mobile) and create a free account.
- Switch the bike on. In E-TUBE Project tap the Bluetooth icon and pick your display (SC-E6100/E7000/E8000) from the list. Enter the passkey if asked (default is often 000000).
- Open [Customize] > [Assist] (or [Drive unit] on older app versions).
- Choose a mode: for each of ECO, TRAIL and BOOST you can set assist character (e.g. ECO / TRAIL / BOOST character presets on E8000) and, on newer firmware, max torque and assist start.
- Tap Apply. The app writes the settings to the drive unit; keep the phone within a metre until it confirms.
- Ride and re-adjust. You can store the result as a profile for quick switching on the E8000.
Can't find it?
The app connects but [Assist] is greyed out: the drive unit firmware is too old for customisation. Update it first through the same app (Firmware update) or at a dealer.
Frequently asked
Can I change the assist levels on the display itself?
No. The display chooses OFF, ECO, TRAIL or BOOST. Strength per level is an E-TUBE Project setting.
What does 'assist character' mean?
It sets how quickly the motor responds and how much torque it adds relative to your pedalling. A sportier character responds faster and feels stronger at the same level.
Will custom assist settings survive a firmware update?
Usually yes, but check afterwards. Some updates return the drive unit to factory profiles.
