Use walk assist on a Shimano STEPS SC-E6100, SC-E7000 or SC-E8000
Walk assist pushes the bike at up to 6 km/h while you walk beside it. It is a two-step action on Shimano: select [WALK] first, then hold the button.
Step by step
- Stop the bike. Press X (down) on the assist switch repeatedly until the assist mode shows OFF.
- Press X once more (or hold it briefly) so the display shows [WALK].
- Press and hold X. The motor starts after about a second and keeps pushing while you hold the button.
- Release X to stop. After a few seconds without input the mode drops back to OFF.
- Select ECO/TRAIL/BOOST again with Y before riding.
Tip: Walk assist only starts when the rear wheel can turn. On a bike with the rear wheel off the ground or the brake dragging it refuses. Push the bike a little as you press.
Can't find it?
No [WALK] shown when pressing down past OFF: the bike manufacturer disabled walk assist in E-TUBE, or the switch is a light-only unit. A dealer can enable it in E-TUBE Project if the region allows.
Frequently asked
Walk assist starts, then stops after a second.
Normal if you released the button or the wheel stalled. Keep X held and keep the bike moving.
Can I walk assist in a lower gear for hills?
Yes. Walk assist power depends on the gear on derailleur bikes; shift to a low gear before selecting [WALK].
Is walk assist available in every country?
Speed is limited to 6 km/h in the EU. Some markets disable it entirely, which the dealer cannot override.
