Which languages the Bafang 850C / 860C / 500C / 750C offer and how to switch

Bafang 850C / 860C / 500C / 750C colour displays

Only the 860C (and the 850C on newer firmware) has a Language item, usually English, German, Dutch, French and Italian. The 500C and 750C are English-only.

Step by step

  1. Switch on, then press and hold + and − together (on a 860C with an M/i button: hold + and − as well, or press i twice on some firmware) for about 2 seconds until the Setting menu opens.
  2. Open Display Setting and look for Language (860C; on the 850C only firmware from 2020 on).
  3. Press power, choose the language with + / −, confirm.
  4. Back → Exit. Menu text changes immediately; numbers and icons stay the same.
  5. No Language item: the display is English-only; use the Unit item for km/h.
Tip: Language packs are burned into the firmware, so which languages you get depends on the bike brand's build. A display bought loose from Bafang normally has EN/DE/NL/FR/IT on the 860C.

Can't find it?

If the display is in Chinese: it is a grey-import unit. Enter the menu (hold + and −), go to the first sub-menu, third item (that is Language on stock layout) and pick English.

Frequently asked

Can the 500C get German?

No. It is a mono screen with fixed English labels.

Where is Language on the 860C?

Display Setting → Language, just below Unit.

Does language change the error code texts?

Only the header; the code number is what matters, look it up here.
