Using the 6 km/h walk mode from a Bafang 850C / 860C / 500C
Hold − for two seconds and keep it held: the bike drives at walking pace. Release to stop.
Step by step
- Switch on. Any assist level.
- Hold − for about 2 seconds until the walk icon (person pushing a bike) appears.
- Keep − held; the motor pulls at up to 6 km/h.
- Release − to stop. A brake lever also stops it.
- On the 860C with an i button, some firmware uses hold i + − instead; the manual for your bike says which.
Tip: Walk assist drives through the gears on a mid-drive: shift to a low gear before a ramp or stairs, otherwise the motor labours and may throw an overcurrent error.
Can't find it?
No reaction: OEM firmware with walk disabled, a stuck brake sensor, or a button pad with a worn − contact (very common on the remote button pad of the 850C; the pad is a cheap replacement part).
Frequently asked

No, it stops at 6 km/h by design and is meant for pushing the bike.
Does it work with the display in level 0?
Yes on stock firmware; some OEMs require level 1 or higher.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
