Switching the headlight from a Bafang 850C / 860C / 500C display

Bafang 850C / 860C / 500C / 750C colour displays

Hold + for two seconds: light on, screen goes to night brightness. Same gesture to switch off.

Step by step

  1. Switch on the display.
  2. Hold + for about 2 seconds. The headlight icon appears top-left.
  3. The controller's light output is powered; the display dims to the night level.
  4. Hold + again for 2 seconds to switch off.
  5. Bikes with an ambient sensor switch lights on by themselves; the icon shows when they do.
Tip: Light output on BBS kits is 6 V / max 6 W; on M-series (M400/M500/M600) it is 6 V or 12 V depending on the controller, printed on the connector label. Match the light to that voltage.

Can't find it?

Icon on, no light: unplugged 2-pin light lead at the motor, or a 12 V light on a 6 V output. Icon will not appear: OEM firmware has hidden the function (lights wired direct to the battery) or the + button is worn.

Frequently asked

Why does the screen dim with the lights?

Night mode, set separately as Night Brightness on the 860C.

Can I switch only the rear light?

No, one output for both.

Lights come on at every start-up?

The controller remembers the last state; hold + to switch off and it will stay off next time.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
