How to update Aventon firmware via the app and what to do when it fails
The Aventon app updates display and controller firmware over Bluetooth. Updates take 5 to 10 minutes and reset some display settings.
Step by step
- Charge the bike above 50% and connect the app to the bike.
- Open the bike > Settings > 'Firmware' (or a banner 'Update available' on the bike screen).
- Tap 'Update' and keep the phone next to the display with the app in the foreground.
- The display reboots; do not switch the bike off.
- When 'Up to date' shows, check units, brightness, clock and class setting; set them again if reset.
- Failed update: switch the display off and on, reconnect the app, tap 'Retry'. Most failures are Bluetooth drops.
Tip: Do the update indoors; sunlight makes it impossible to see if the display is in its boot screen.
Can't find it?
No 'Firmware' entry: the app is out of date or your model (Pace 350, original Level) has no updatable display.
Frequently asked
The display is stuck on the Aventon logo.
Remove the battery for a minute, refit, switch on. Then retry the update. If it stays stuck, the display needs reflashing by a dealer.
Are updates mandatory?
No, but 2023 updates fixed throttle cut-outs and class-3 saving problems.
Can a dealer update it?
Yes, with the Aventon service app.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
