Throttle behaviour on a KT LCD3 / LCD5 / LCD8: P4 and C4 explained
KT controllers drive the throttle directly; the display sets two things: whether it works from standstill (P4) and how it is limited (C4).
Step by step
- Switch the display on. Within a few seconds, press and hold ▲ and ▼ together for about 2 seconds: the General Settings screen appears with the maximum speed flashing. From the General Settings screen, hold ▲ and ▼ together again for 2 seconds to reach the P parameters (P1–P5); a third hold reaches the C parameters (C1–C14). Power (short press) steps to the next parameter; ▲ / ▼ change the value; holding ▲ and ▼ again saves and exits.
- P4 = 0: throttle works from standstill. P4 = 1: throttle only after the pedals turn (EU-friendly 'assist-only' feel).
- C4 = 0: throttle up to the max speed, always. C4 = 1: throttle limited to 6 km/h (walk speed) — the EU-legal setting. C4 = 2: throttle ignores assist level and gives full power. C4 = 3: throttle only in level 1–5, not level 0. C4 = 4: throttle capped at the current assist level's speed. (Values differ slightly by firmware; the display shows the range.)
- Hold ▲ and ▼ to save. Test on a quiet road.
- To physically disable the throttle, unplug its 3-pin connector; the controller runs without it.
Tip: Legal note: in the EU a throttle that drives the bike above 6 km/h without pedalling takes it out of the pedelec class (it needs L1e type approval, plates and insurance). In the UK a full-speed 'twist and go' is only legal on bikes that were type-approved as such; the 6 km/h walk-speed throttle is fine. In the USA a throttle up to 20 mph is legal on Class 2 e-bikes but not on Class 1 or 3, and many trails ban throttle bikes outright.
Can't find it?
Throttle dead: level 0 with C4 = 3, a brake sensor stuck, or the throttle Hall sensor gone (error 04 on many KT firmware). Throttle full-on at power-up (motor runs by itself): throttle wire shorted or water in the throttle; unplug it immediately.
Frequently asked
Legal EU setting?
C4 = 1 (6 km/h) or throttle unplugged.
Throttle only gives half power?
C4 = 4 with a low assist level, or C5 below 10.
Can I have throttle without PAS?
Yes, set P4 = 0 and ride in any level; unplug the PAS sensor if you want no pedal assist at all.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
