Assist level settings and the safe P1–P5 / C1–C14 parameters on a KT LCD3 / LCD5 / LCD8
KT displays have 5 assist levels (0–5) and a set of parameters that shape them. Only a handful are safe to touch; here they are with what they do.
Step by step
- Switch the display on. Within a few seconds, press and hold ▲ and ▼ together for about 2 seconds: the General Settings screen appears with the maximum speed flashing. Then: From the General Settings screen, hold ▲ and ▼ together again for 2 seconds to reach the P parameters (P1–P5); a third hold reaches the C parameters (C1–C14). Power (short press) steps to the next parameter; ▲ / ▼ change the value; holding ▲ and ▼ again saves and exits.
- P1 = motor gear ratio × magnet count (speed calc without external sensor). P2 = speed pulses per wheel turn (0–6; 1 for a spoke magnet). P3 = assist mode: 0 = speed-based (each level is a speed cap), 1 = 'imitation torque', current-based (each level is a current cap, the normal setting). P4 = throttle needs pedalling first (1) or works from standstill (0). P5 = battery reading mode (0 = real-time voltage, 1–40 = smoothed; 15–20 hides sag).
- C1 = PAS sensor type (00–07; 02 for most 12-magnet discs, try 03–05 if assist is late or jerky). C2 = motor phase type (leave 0). C3 = assist level at power-on (0–5, 8 = last used). C4 = throttle behaviour with walk/cruise (see throttle guide). C5 = maximum current 0–10 (10 = 100 %, 9 ≈ 90 %… useful to tame a hot motor). C6 = backlight 1–5. C7 = cruise control on/off. C8 = motor temperature display. C9 = start-up password on/off. C10 = restore defaults (n/y). C11 = display protocol/service (0 default). C12 = low-voltage cut-off offset 0–7 (4 default). C13 = regen/e-ABS braking 0–5 (0 off). C14 = assist strength profile: 1 mild, 2 medium, 3 strong.
- For 'level 1 is too strong' set C14 = 1; for 'level 5 is weak' set C14 = 3 and C5 = 10. For 'assist keeps pushing after I stop pedalling' check C1 and lower P3 to 1.
- Hold ▲ and ▼ to save at any point. Write the old values down first.
Can't find it?
9-level mode: the LCD8H can show 9 levels via C-parameter on some firmware; the LCD3 is 5 levels only. If a parameter is missing, the controller firmware does not support it and the display hides it.
Frequently asked
Which parameter makes the bike faster?
None in a legal way. C5 and C14 change how quickly you reach the limit, not the limit itself, which is the general-settings max speed.
Level 1 does nothing on my bike?
P3 = 0 (speed mode) with a low speed cap for level 1. Set P3 = 1.
Assist starts late and stops late?
C1 sensor type wrong, or the PAS disc magnets are far from the sensor (should be 1–2 mm).
Manuals and video
These displays are sold unbranded by many factories, so there is no single official manual. Check the manual that came with your bike, or your bike brand's support page.
