Walk assist (6 km/h) and cruise control on a KT LCD3 / LCD5 / LCD8

KT LCD3 / LCD5 / LCD8 (Kunteng controllers)

Hold ▼ for 2 seconds to walk the bike at 6 km/h; release to stop. Cruise control (C7) holds the current speed after 8 seconds at constant throttle.

Step by step

  1. Switch on. Hold ▼ for about 2 seconds; the display shows a walk icon or 'P' and the motor drives at 6 km/h.
  2. Keep ▼ held; release to stop. Brakes also cut it.
  3. Cruise: hold ▲ and ▼ to enter settings, then hold ▲ and ▼ together again for 2 seconds to reach the P parameters (P1–P5); a third hold reaches the C parameters (C1–C14). Power (short press) steps to the next parameter; ▲ / ▼ change the value; holding ▲ and ▼ again saves and exits. Set C7 = 1.
  4. With C7 on: hold the throttle steady for about 8 seconds; the cruise icon appears and you can release the throttle. Brake or touch the throttle to cancel.
  5. Set C7 = 0 to disable cruise if the bike is used by others; a runaway cruise on a first ride is how people crash.
Tip: Walk assist on a hub motor pushes hard on a heavy cargo bike; keep both hands on the bars and start the button with the bike already moving slightly.

Can't find it?

No walk: the controller does not support it (older 6-FET KT), or a brake sensor is stuck. Walk goes faster than 6 km/h: the controller's walk speed is fixed at 6 km/h by firmware; if it is faster, someone fitted a modified controller.

Frequently asked

Is cruise control legal?

In the EU a cruise that holds speed without pedalling above 6 km/h is a throttle in law: not pedelec-legal. In the US it is legal on Class 2.

Walk assist only for 3 seconds?

Button contact bouncing; on the LCD5 the tiny ▼ key wears out.

Can I change the walk speed?

No.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
