How to connect the Cowboy app to your bike and fix pairing failures

Cowboy 3 / 4 / Cruiser (Cowboy app)

The Cowboy app connects over Bluetooth Low Energy; the bike must be awake and registered to your account. Most pairing failures are a sleeping bike or an Android location permission.

Step by step

  1. Install the Cowboy app and log in with the email the bike is registered to.
  2. Wake the bike: press the button under the top tube near the head tube (Cowboy 3) or the button on the frame by the battery (Cowboy 4 / Cruiser). The rear light blinks.
  3. Turn on Bluetooth. Android: also allow 'Location' for the Cowboy app (Android requires it for BLE scanning).
  4. Open the app; the bike connects within 10 seconds and the home screen shows battery and lock state.
  5. If it does not: force-close the app, toggle Bluetooth, and try again with the phone touching the top tube.
  6. Still not connecting: remove the battery for 30 seconds and refit it (this reboots the bike's electronics), then retry.
  7. If the app says 'This bike belongs to another account', the previous owner has not released it; see transfer of ownership.
Tip: Do not pair the Cowboy in your phone's Bluetooth settings; it must be done from the app only. If you did, 'Forget' it there first.

Can't find it?

New Cowboy: the first connection is done during 'Add bike' by scanning the QR code on the frame or under the battery. If you skipped it, tap '+' on the home screen.

Frequently asked

The app connects but shows 0% battery and no speed.

The battery is not clicked in fully. Remove it and refit until it clicks. On the Cowboy 3 clean the contacts.

Does the app still work after the takeover?

Yes. ReBirth Group is running the app and servers. Support response times have been long during the transition, so fix pairing yourself with the steps above before opening a ticket.

Can I ride without the app?

Yes; once unlocked the bike assists without the phone. But you cannot lock, check battery, change settings or update firmware without it.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
