How to turn the headlight and backlight on and off from a Bafang DP C18 / DP C07

Bafang DP C18 / DP C07 / DP C10 (BBS02, BBSHD, M-series)

Hold + for 2 seconds to switch the lights on; the same press turns them off. The display also dims itself when lights are on.

Step by step

  1. Switch the display on.
  2. Press and hold + for about 2 seconds until the headlight icon appears in the top bar.
  3. The controller now powers the light output (6 V on BBS02/BBSHD, 12 V on M-series) and the screen switches to night brightness.
  4. Hold + again for 2 seconds to switch the light off.
  5. Some OEM bikes light up automatically from the ambient sensor; you will see the icon appear at dusk without pressing anything.
Tip: The BBS02/BBSHD light connector gives 6 V and a maximum of about 1 A (6 W). Fit only a 6 V e-bike light; a 12 V light will glow dimly and a 48 V light will blow the controller's light driver.

Can't find it?

Icon on but no light: check the two-pin light plug at the motor (often left unconnected on kit builds) and that the light itself is rated 6 V. Icon missing entirely: some firmware hides the light function; the M-series bikes use the same hold-+ gesture but the lights may be wired straight to the battery.

Frequently asked

Why does the screen dim when I switch the lights on?

By design: night mode lowers the backlight so it does not dazzle. Brightness in the menu only sets the daytime level.

Can I keep the backlight bright with the lights on?

No, not on the DP C18. The 850C colour display has a separate night brightness setting.

Can I run the rear light from the same output?

Yes if the combined draw stays under about 6 W; most LED front/rear sets are 2–3 W together.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
