Bafang DP C18 start-up password and the 8018 service code explained
The DP C18 has two different 'passwords': an optional 4-digit start-up password you set yourself, and the fixed service code 8018 that unlocks wheel size and speed limit on some firmware.
Step by step
- Switch the display on, then press and hold + and − together for about 2 seconds until the Setting menu appears (Display Setting / Information / Exit).
- To set a start-up password: open Display Setting → Password (some firmware: 'Start Password'). Choose Enable, then enter a 4-digit code with + / − and confirm each digit with power. Enter it a second time to confirm.
- From now on the display asks for that code every time you switch on; enter each digit with + / − and confirm with power.
- To remove it: Display Setting → Password → Disable, and enter the current code once.
- To edit a locked Wheel Size or Speed Limit: open Information, select the item; when the display shows 'Password' or four dashes, enter 8018 digit by digit.
- The service code is not stored: you enter it every time you want to edit a locked item.
Can't find it?
If 8018 is refused, the OEM has changed the code or removed the option; nothing you type on the handlebar will work. If the display asks for a password at power-on and you never set one, the previous owner did: try 0000, 1234 and 8018 before you buy a new display.
Frequently asked
Is 8018 a hack?
No. It is Bafang's documented service code printed in the DP C18 manual; the same code works on the 500C, 850C and C965.
Does the password protect the bike from theft?
Only mildly: the bike still rolls and pedals without assist. Treat it as a deterrent, not a lock.
I entered the wrong password three times, is the display locked?
No, there is no lock-out; you can keep trying.
