How to change the screen brightness on a Bafang DP C18 / DP C07

Bafang DP C18 / DP C07 / DP C10 (BBS02, BBSHD, M-series)

Brightness is a five-step value in Display Setting. Level 1 saves a little battery at night; level 5 is needed in direct sun with the C07's smaller panel.

Step by step

  1. Switch the display on, then press and hold + and − together for about 2 seconds until the Setting menu appears (Display Setting / Information / Exit).
  2. Open Display Setting.
  3. Scroll to Brightness and press power. The current value (10 %–100 % or 1–5 depending on firmware) flashes.
  4. Set it with + and −, confirm with power.
  5. Exit twice. The change applies at once and is remembered.
Tip: Holding + for 2 seconds turns the headlight and the backlight dimming on/off; that is not brightness, it just toggles night mode. If the screen looks too dark by day, check you have not left the light on.

Can't find it?

If there is no Brightness item, your OEM firmware sets it automatically from the light-sensor icon in the top-right. Cover the sensor with a finger: the screen should dim within a second, which proves it works.

Does full brightness cost range?

Around 0.5–1 W, so under 1 % of a typical 500 Wh battery. Not worth worrying about.

Screen is unreadable in sunlight even at 100 %?

The DP C18 is transflective; tilt it towards you and clean the film. A yellowed screen protector halves the contrast.

Can I turn the backlight fully off?

No, the lowest setting is 10 %.
