Wheel circumference on a Shimano STEPS EP8/EP6 system with an SC-EM800, SC-EN600 or SC-EN500 display
Circumference is a drive-unit value, visible but read-only in consumer E-TUBE Project. A dealer changes it in dealer mode.
Step by step
- Compare display speed with GPS on a flat kilometre. More than 5 % off points at circumference.
- Measure the true rolling circumference in mm under load.
- E-TUBE Project on your phone: [Drive unit] shows the current value read-only.
- Take the bike and measurement to a STEPS dealer for the change.
- Verify against GPS afterwards.
Tip: Mullet setups (29 front, 27.5 rear): the value must match the rear wheel, where the speed sensor sits.
Can't find it?
Dealer says locked: some brands (Trek, Cube, Merida) lock it; only their service partner can change it.
Frequently asked
Can E-TUBE Project Cyclist change wheel size?
No, it is read-only in the consumer app.
Is a wrong value dangerous?
Not dangerous, but the 25 km/h cut-off and ODO will be off.
New tyres, speed reads low, is the sensor broken?
Usually not. The circumference changed. Have it updated.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
