Update firmware on a Shimano EP8/EP6 system with an SC-EM800, SC-EN600 or SC-EN500
EP8-era systems update from the E-TUBE Project (Cyclist) app on the phone. Dealer updates over cable are only needed when the app refuses a unit or the update bricks halfway.
Step by step
- Charge above 50 %. Connect E-TUBE Project.
- Open [Firmware update]. Update the display first, then the drive unit, then battery and switch.
- Keep the phone within a metre; the drive unit takes 5-15 minutes.
- Switch off and on afterwards; check units, clock, profiles.
- Units marked dealer-only are flashed with the wired SM-PCE02 at a shop.
Tip: Updating the display first prevents Bluetooth dropouts during the long drive-unit update.
Can't find it?
Stuck at the same percentage: disable battery saver, keep the screen on, try another phone. Bike dead after a failed update: switch off, wait, on, reconnect; the app resumes. Otherwise dealer recovery.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
