Customise ECO, TRAIL and BOOST on a Shimano EP8/EP6 with an SC-EM800, SC-EN600 or SC-EN500 display
EP8 has two stored profiles, each with adjustable assist character, max torque and assist start per mode. You tune them in the E-TUBE Project (Cyclist) app and switch between profiles on the display.
Step by step
- Connect E-TUBE Project to the display (see pairing).
- Open [Customize] > [Assist]. Choose Profile 1 or Profile 2.
- For each of ECO, TRAIL, BOOST set: assist character (1-10 on newer firmware), max torque (Nm) and assist start (1-5).
- Tap Apply; keep the phone close until confirmed.
- On the bike: Stop the bike and switch it on. Press and hold both assist buttons (X and Y) on the SW-EM800 switch at the same time until the settings menu opens. On an SC-EN600 with buttons on the display, hold the display's function button instead. Scroll to [Profile] and pick 1 or 2, or use the quick-switch if the brand mapped it to a long press.
- Ride and refine.
Tip: Set Profile 1 for daily riding and Profile 2 with a lower max torque for range on long days. Switching takes five seconds at the roadside.
Can't find it?
[Assist] greyed out: drive-unit firmware too old. Run [Firmware update] first. On E-TUBE Ride you can also fine-tune, but only within what E-TUBE Project allows.
Frequently asked
What is the difference between E-TUBE Project and E-TUBE Ride for assist?
Project sets the profiles. Ride shows them and offers a quick 'fine tune' slider on newer firmware.
Do custom profiles survive updates?
Usually. Check after every update.
Can I make BOOST stronger than stock?
Max torque cannot exceed the drive unit's rating (85 Nm on EP8). You can only reduce or restore it.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
