Speed limit on an S866 / S830 / S861 display and what is legal
P08 is the assist cut-off in km/h (100 = no limit on many firmware). It is behind the settings password and is the setting most owners are searching for; read the legal note before you change it.
Step by step
- Switch the display on. Press and hold + and − (up and down) together for about 2–3 seconds. On most bikes a password screen appears: enter 1919 (set each digit with + / −, confirm with power). If 1919 is refused, try 0512, 0000 or 8018. The parameter list then opens at P01.
- Press power to P08. Set the cut-off in km/h with + / − (range typically 10–72 or 10–100).
- Power (short press) moves to the next parameter; + / − change the value; hold + and − together to save and exit.
- Test on private ground: assist should stop within 1 km/h of the value.
- Set 25 for EU/UK road use, 32 (20 mph) for US Class 1/2.
Can't find it?
Assist still cuts at 25 with P08 = 40: the controller has a hard limit or a speed-limit wire, or P18 is below 100. P08 has no effect at all: OEM firmware with a locked value (the number changes on screen but is ignored). Bike goes faster than P08: wheel size P06 too small or P07 wrong, which makes it think it is slower than it is.
Frequently asked
What does P08 = 100 mean?
No speed limit; the bike then runs to whatever the motor and voltage allow. Illegal on public roads everywhere.
Fiido / Engwe legal in the EU?
Only with P08 = 25 and the throttle limited or removed; several models are sold with 25 set but easily changed, which is your responsibility.
Does lowering P08 save battery?
Yes, air drag rises with the square of speed; 22 km/h instead of 25 gives about 15 % more range.

These displays are sold unbranded by many factories, so there is no single official manual. Check the manual that came with your bike, or your bike brand's support page.
