How to use walk assist (walk mode) on a Rad Power Bike

Rad Power Bikes LCD display (RadRover, RadCity, RadRunner, RadWagon)

Walk mode drives the bike at about 6 km/h (4 mph) while you walk beside it. It is useful for a loaded RadWagon on a ramp.

Step by step

  1. Turn the display on and set any PAS level (walk mode is unavailable in some firmware at level 0).
  2. Press and hold the Down arrow. After about 2 seconds the motor starts pushing the bike at walking pace and the display shows a walking figure or 'P'.
  3. Keep holding; the bike stops as soon as you release the button.
  4. On bikes with a twist throttle you can also feather the throttle to walk it, but that has no speed cap.
  5. Newer Rad LCD (2022+): same, hold Down.
Tip: Walk mode is strong enough to pull a RadWagon with a child seat up a garage ramp, but it will not hold a fat bike on a wet loading ramp; keep the brakes covered.

Can't find it?

If holding Down only lowers the level, hold longer (2 to 3 seconds) from the lowest level. Some 2018 firmware needs the level at 1, not 0.

Frequently asked

Walk mode pulls too hard.

It is a fixed speed; there is no adjustment. Use the brake and it stops instantly.

Walk mode does not work on my RadRover 6 Plus.

Check the Rad app or display is not in 'Ride mode: off'. Also, brake levers pulled slightly cut the motor.

Is walk mode legal in the EU?

Yes, up to 6 km/h without pedalling is allowed.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
