How to change the LCD display from mph to km/h on a RadRover, RadCity, RadRunner or RadWagon

Rad Power Bikes LCD display (RadRover, RadCity, RadRunner, RadWagon)

The Rad LCD display (2018 to 2023 models) shows units as 'MPH' or 'KM/H' on the speedometer. You change it in the first Settings screen; no app needed.

Step by step

  1. Turn the display on, then press and hold the Up and Down arrows together for about 2 seconds to open the Settings menu.
  2. The first setting is display brightness (bL1 to bL3). Press MODE once to move to the units setting; the screen shows 'MPH' or 'KM/H'.
  3. Press Up or Down to switch between MPH and KM/H.
  4. Press and hold MODE for 2 seconds to save and exit (or wait 10 seconds; the display exits and saves automatically).
  5. Check the speedometer label; the odometer and trip switch to miles or kilometres at the same time.
  6. Newer Rad LCD (2022+ RadRunner 3, RadCity 5 Plus, RadRover 6 Plus): hold MODE (the middle button) for 2 seconds, choose 'Unit' with the arrows, press MODE to confirm.
Tip: The wheel-size and speed-limit settings do not change when you switch units; the display converts them.

Can't find it?

If holding Up+Down does nothing, the display is in a ride (speed above 0). Stop the bike first. On the older 'Rad LCD' with the separate button pad, the buttons are on the left of the handlebar, not on the display.

Frequently asked

Does switching to km/h change the 20 mph limit?

No. The cut-off stays at the value in the advanced settings (32 km/h = 20 mph).

My display shows km/h but the Rad app shows miles.

The Rad app (only for 2023+ models with the new display) has its own unit setting under Settings > Units.

The setting resets every time I turn the bike off.

The display's memory is failing or a firmware bug on 2019 units. Try holding MODE to save rather than waiting for the timeout. If it persists, Rad support can send a replacement display.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
