How to turn the lights on and off on a Rad Power Bike

Rad Power Bikes LCD display (RadRover, RadCity, RadRunner, RadWagon)

Rad lights are powered from the main battery and switched from the display. The tail light also works as a brake light on most models.

Step by step

  1. Turn the display on.
  2. Press and hold the Up arrow for 2 seconds. The headlight comes on, the tail light turns on, and a light icon appears on the display. Hold Up again to switch off.
  3. Newer Rad LCD (2022+): hold MODE > 'Lights' or press the dedicated light button on the button pad.
  4. The tail light brightens when you pull either brake lever, regardless of whether the lights are on.
  5. Lights switch off with the display; there is no auto (sensor) mode on the older LCD.
Tip: If the headlight works but the tail light does not, check the connector under the rear rack; it is the first thing to corrode.

Can't find it?

If holding Up only raises the PAS level, hold longer (2 seconds). On the 2018 RadCity the light switch is on the headlight housing itself.

Frequently asked

Can the lights stay on in daylight automatically?

Only on 2023+ displays with the 'Auto' option.

The headlight flickers when the motor works.

Loose connector at the headlight or a voltage drop from a worn battery. Clean and reseat the plug first.

Do the lights drain the battery?

About 1 to 2% per hour; negligible.
