How to change the speed limit on a Lectric XP 2.0, XP 3.0 or XPedition (20 mph to 28 mph) and the legal notes

Lectric XP 2.0 / 3.0 / XPedition display

Lectric ships US bikes as class 2 (20 mph) and lets you unlock class 3 (28 mph pedal-assist) in P08. Above 20 mph the throttle is meant to stop; on some firmware it does not, which is a legal grey zone.

Step by step

  1. With the display on and the bike stationary, press and hold '+' and '-' together for about 1 second to open the P-settings menu (P01 appears).
  2. Press power/M until P08 shows (the speed limit, in the current units).
  3. Use '+'/'-' to set 20 (class 2) or 28 mph (class 3). Values above 28 are possible on some firmware but illegal everywhere.
  4. Hold '+' and '-' to save and exit.
  5. Test-ride. Pedal assist now continues to the set value.
  6. Check local law: class 3 bikes are 16+ with helmet in many US states and are banned from some paths. In the EU / UK the legal limit is 25 km/h; the XP is sold there with P08 locked.
Tip: Lectric's own manual explains the P08 change and asks you to confirm class-3 legality yourself; the bike's sticker still says class 2.

Can't find it?

If P08 does not appear or refuses to change, you have the EU/locked firmware.

Frequently asked

Does the throttle stop at 20 mph in class 3?

On XP 3.0 firmware from 2023 yes; on earlier XP 2.0 firmware the throttle follows P08, which makes the bike non-compliant as class 3.

Can I set 25 km/h for Europe?

Yes: set P02 to km/h and P08 to 25.

Does changing P08 void the warranty?

No, it is documented by Lectric.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
