Update firmware on a Giant SyncDrive e-bike with RideControl (One, Evo, Dash, Ergo)

Giant RideControl (One, Evo, Dash, Ergo) / Giant RideControl app

Since 2020 the RideControl app can update the display and, on many models, the drive unit over Bluetooth. Older bikes and some motor updates remain dealer work.

Step by step

  1. Open the Giant RideControl app on the phone, switch the bike on and connect (see the pairing guide).
  2. Open the bike page > [Software update] (or settings > firmware). The app lists components with newer versions.
  3. Charge above 50 %, keep the phone close, tap update. Display updates take a few minutes; drive-unit updates 10-20 minutes.
  4. Switch the bike off and on afterwards; check units and Ride Tuning.
  5. Component marked 'dealer': book a Giant dealer for the service tool update.
Tip: Update the RideControl unit before the drive unit; it stabilises the Bluetooth link for the longer update.

Can't find it?

Update fails every time: try another phone, close other Bluetooth apps, disable battery saver. Bike dead after a failed update: power-cycle and reconnect; the app resumes. Otherwise dealer.

Frequently asked

Is the app update free?

Does an update change the speed limit?

Can a firmware update add Smart Assist?

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
