Customise assist levels on a Giant SyncDrive e-bike with the RideControl app
Giant offers five levels (ECO, TOUR/BASIC, ACTIVE, SPORT, POWER, names vary by model year) and a Smart Assist / AUTO mode. Since app version 2 you can tune the strength of each level in percent through Ride Tuning.
Step by step
- Open the Giant RideControl app on the phone, switch the bike on and connect (see the pairing guide).
- Open the bike page and choose [Ride Tuning] (or [Assist settings] on older versions).
- For each level, drag the slider (typically 50-150 % of the default) and, on newer models, adjust response.
- Tap Save; the app writes to the drive unit. Keep the phone close until confirmed.
- On the bike, change level with the +/- buttons; the tuned values apply immediately.
- Smart Assist (AUTO) is selected on the display or app and adapts level to your torque.
Tip: Ride Tuning is greyed out on some 2019 and older bikes; a dealer firmware update enables it on many of them.
Can't find it?
Levels feel identical after saving: switch the bike off and on. If still identical, the dealer tool may have locked tuning on that model.
Frequently asked
Can I tune assist on the RideControl Evo without the app?
No; Evo only selects the level.
What is Smart Assist?
Giant's automatic mode; it picks a level from your pedal torque and cadence.
Does tuning increase the maximum torque?
No, it scales within the motor's rating.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
