Brose error 24: Internal voltage out of working range

Brose Drive (S, T, C - also used by Bulls, Rotwild, Fantic, BH, Trek Allant)Fix at homeRide with caution

The motor control unit has measured a battery or internal supply voltage outside the limits it accepts as safe. As a result the drive cuts motor assist and walk assist, and the speed reading drops to zero. The bike still rolls and the lights usually work, but it has no power support until the voltage returns to spec.

Likely causes

How to fix Brose error 24

  1. 1. Fit the original charger and charge the battery until the LED shows full, leaving it on the charger for an extra hour.
  2. 2. Switch off the system, remove the battery, and inspect both the contacts on the pack and the contacts in the frame mount.
  3. 3. Wipe the contact surfaces with a dry lint-free cloth; do not use contact spray on the battery side.
  4. 4. Reseat the battery firmly, switch the system on, and check whether the code has cleared on the display.
  5. 5. Take a short test ride to confirm motor assist and walk assist return under load.
  6. 6. If error 24 returns immediately on a fully charged battery, stop further charging attempts and book the bike in with a Brose service point for a full voltage and BMS diagnostic.
Go to a dealer if: Take the bike to an authorised dealer if the code returns after a full charge on clean contacts, because the pack or wiring then needs a controlled diagnostic.
Warranty: A genuine internal battery, BMS, or wiring fault inside the standard two-year warranty window is normally covered as a component defect, while deep-discharge damage, water ingress, crash impact, and aftermarket modification are treated as wear or misuse and excluded.
Typical cost: A workshop diagnostic typically costs 40-80 EUR, and a replacement OEM battery where the pack itself is at fault usually runs 500-900 EUR depending on capacity and the bike brand.
Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.

Frequently asked

Can I reset brose error 24?

The code clears by itself once the internal voltage is back inside the working range, which usually happens after a full charge and a power cycle. Holding the power button does not force a reset if the voltage is still out of range.

Is it safe to keep riding with brose error 24?

The motor cuts assist so the bike rides like a normal unpowered bicycle, which is fine for a slow roll home but should not be used under load or on hills. Charge the battery and clear the code before returning to normal use.

How much does fixing brose error 24 cost?

If it is simply a discharged battery, the fix is free with the original charger. A genuine internal battery fault usually means a 500-900 EUR replacement pack plus around 40-80 EUR diagnostic, and that replacement is typically covered under the two-year warranty.
