Switch lights on and off on a Yamaha PW e-bike (Display A, C, X, Interface X)

Yamaha PW displays (Display A, Display C, Interface X, Display X)

Lights on the drive unit's light output are toggled with the light button on the assist switch (Display A/C) or in the display menu (Display X). Many city bikes on Yamaha have lights permanently on.

Step by step

  1. Switch the bike on.
  2. Press the light button on the assist switch (headlight symbol). A light icon appears on the display.
  3. Press again to switch off.
  4. Display X: menu > [Light] > ON/OFF/AUTO.
  5. Interface X: hold the button briefly (mapping depends on the bike brand) or use the app.
Tip: If the light icon shows but the lamp stays dark, the drive unit is delivering power; check the connector at the headlight before blaming the display.

Can't find it?

No light button and no icon: lights on your bike are on their own battery or are hard-wired always-on by the brand.

Frequently asked

Can lights be set to automatic?

On Display X, yes. On A/C only if the bike brand configured it.

Do lights drain the main battery?

A few watts, negligible.

Lights turn off when the battery is nearly empty.

Normal: the drive unit cuts the light output last, but a fully empty battery ends everything.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
