Wheel circumference on a Shimano STEPS SC-E5000 or SC-E5003

Shimano STEPS SC-E5000 / SC-E5003

Wheel size is not in the SC-E5000 menu. It is a drive-unit value that a Shimano dealer changes in E-TUBE Project dealer mode.

Step by step

  1. Compare display speed against a GPS app on a flat stretch. More than 5 % difference suggests a wrong circumference.
  2. Measure the true circumference (roll one wheel turn under load, in mm).
  3. Take the bike and the value to a STEPS dealer. They enter it in E-TUBE Project under the drive unit.
  4. Verify against GPS afterwards.
Tip: Slightly narrower tyres than original change circumference by 2-3 %, enough to notice. Always have it updated after a tyre size change.

Can't find it?

Dealer reports the field is locked: some bike brands lock circumference on their bikes; only that brand's service partner can change it.

Frequently asked

Can I set wheel size in E-TUBE Project on my phone?

No. Consumer mode shows it read-only. Dealer mode is needed to change it.

Is a wrong wheel size dangerous?

Not dangerous, but the assist cuts out too early or too late and the odometer drifts.

Why is the setting locked?

It defines where the 25 km/h assist limit happens, so Shimano treats it as a type-approval setting.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
