Use walk assist with a Shimano STEPS SC-E5000 or SC-E5003 display

Shimano STEPS SC-E5000 / SC-E5003

Walk assist works the same on all STEPS: go to OFF, step once more to [WALK], then hold the down button.

Step by step

  1. Stop the bike. Press the assist-down (X) button on the switch until OFF shows.
  2. Press X again: the display shows [WALK].
  3. Press and hold X; the motor pushes at walking pace while held.
  4. Release to stop. Press Y to return to a riding mode.
Tip: Shift to a low gear before entering [WALK]; on derailleur bikes the push is far stronger in a low gear.

Can't find it?

No [WALK] appears: the brand disabled it, or the bike has only the display button and no switch. A dealer can enable walk assist in E-TUBE Project where the region allows.

Frequently asked

Walk assist stops after a second.

Keep X held and keep the bike moving; it stops when the wheel stalls.

Maximum walk speed?

6 km/h in the EU.

Can I use walk assist with the display button only?

No. Walk assist needs the SW-E6000/E7000 switch.
