Connect a Shimano STEPS SC-E5000 or SC-E5003 to the E-TUBE Project app

Shimano STEPS SC-E5000 / SC-E5003

Only the SC-E5003 has Bluetooth LE. The original SC-E5000 cannot pair with a phone; settings on those bikes go through a dealer's wired connection (SM-PCE02) or via an EW-EN100 junction if the bike has one.

Step by step

  1. Check which display you have: the model number is printed on the back of the display.
  2. SC-E5003: open the [Setting] menu (hold the function button), move to [Bluetooth LE] and set ON.
  3. Open E-TUBE Project on the phone (not the phone's Bluetooth settings) and tap the connect icon.
  4. Select the SC-E5003 from the list and enter the passkey (default 000000).
  5. Wait for the app to read all units before changing anything.
  6. SC-E5000: no app pairing possible. A dealer connects by cable.
Tip: If the app finds nothing, check the phone's location permission for the app; Android requires it for Bluetooth scanning.

Can't find it?

SC-E5003 not found even with Bluetooth ON: another phone may still be connected. Also try switching the bike off, waiting ten seconds and on again, then scanning.

Frequently asked

Can I add Bluetooth to an SC-E5000?

Yes, by replacing the display with an SC-E5003 (or adding an EW-EN100 junction on some frames). A dealer needs to pair the new unit.

Which app: E-TUBE Project or E-TUBE Ride?

Project for settings and firmware, Ride for a live ride screen and logbook.

Passkey forgotten?

A dealer can reset it in dealer mode; you cannot reset it yourself.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
