Change units (mph to km/h) on a Shimano STEPS SC-E5000 or SC-E5003

Shimano STEPS SC-E5000 / SC-E5003

The SC-E5000 is the basic STEPS display but it still has its own settings menu. Units are changed there with the single button on the display.

Step by step

  1. Stop the bike and switch it on. Press and hold the small function button on the display for about two seconds until the [Setting] menu appears.
  2. Short presses of the function button move through the items; a long press selects. If a SW-E6000 switch is fitted you can also scroll with X and Y and confirm with A.
  3. Move to [Unit] and long-press.
  4. Toggle to [km] (or [mile]) and long-press to confirm.
  5. Move to [Exit] and long-press. The speed now reads in the chosen unit.
Tip: Second-hand bike from the UK? Do [Language] and [Clock] in the same session; they sit next to [Unit].

Can't find it?

The button only cycles the ride screens and never opens a menu: hold it longer (up to three seconds) while the bike is stationary. If nothing happens, the bike brand locked the menu and the change must be made in E-TUBE Project.

Frequently asked

Where is the unit setting on the SC-E5000?

In the [Setting] menu, opened by holding the display's function button while stopped.

Does the SC-E5000 have Bluetooth for the app?

The original SC-E5000 has no Bluetooth; settings then need a dealer's wired E-TUBE connection. The later SC-E5003 has Bluetooth LE and works with E-TUBE Project on your phone.

Will the odometer convert correctly?

Yes. Distance is stored in km internally and converted for display.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
