Switch lights on and off with a Shimano STEPS SC-E5000 or SC-E5003

Shimano STEPS SC-E5000 / SC-E5003

If the lights are powered from the drive unit, the light button on the switch (or a long press on the display button on some setups) toggles them.

Step by step

  1. Switch the bike on.
  2. Press the A/light button on the switch. A light icon appears on the display.
  3. Press again to switch off.
  4. If the bike has no switch, try a long press on the display's function button while the ride screen is shown; some brands map lights there.
  5. Auto mode (if the brand enabled it) is set in E-TUBE Project under [Light].
Tip: Many city bikes with the SC-E5000 have the lights permanently on by design; that is not a fault.

Can't find it?

Icon shows but the lamp stays dark: check the connector at the headlight. No icon at all: [Light] is disabled in E-TUBE Project, dealer or app can enable it.

Frequently asked

Lights come on by themselves at start-up.

Brand setting for always-on lighting. E-TUBE Project shows whether it can be changed.

Can I dim the headlight?

No, it is on or off.

Do the lights run from the main battery?

Yes, when wired to the drive unit's light output.
