Use walk assist on a Shimano STEPS bike with an EW-EN100 junction

Shimano STEPS EW-EN100 junction (no display) + E-TUBE Project app

Walk assist needs a handlebar switch (SW-E7000 or SW-E6000). The EW-EN100 button alone cannot trigger it.

Step by step

  1. Stop the bike. On the switch press X (down) until the assist LED shows OFF.
  2. Press X once more; the LED changes to the walk indication (flashing on most firmware).
  3. Press and hold X. The motor pushes at up to 6 km/h while held.
  4. Release to stop; press Y to return to a riding mode.
Tip: Shift to a low gear first on derailleur bikes; walk assist is weak in a high gear.

Can't find it?

No walk indication: walk assist may be disabled in E-TUBE Project by the bike brand, or the switch is not defined as assist control. A dealer can check both.

Frequently asked

Can I get walk assist with only the EW-EN100 button?

No. Fit a SW-E7000 switch; a dealer pairs it in E-TUBE.

Walk assist stops after a second.

Keep X held and keep the bike rolling; it cuts when the wheel stalls.

Is walk speed adjustable?

No, it is fixed by regulation.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
