Switch lights on and off on a Shimano STEPS bike with an EW-EN100 junction
Lights wired to the drive unit are toggled with a long press on the EW-EN100 button, or with the light button on a SW-E7000 switch.
Step by step
- Switch the bike on.
- Press and hold the EW-EN100 button for about two seconds. The lights toggle. (On some firmware a long press is pairing and a double press is lights; the app shows the mapping under [Customize] > [Switch].)
- With a SW-E7000, press its A/light button instead.
- Automatic mode, if the brand allows it, is set in E-TUBE Project under [Light].
Tip: In E-TUBE Project you can reassign what the EW-EN100 button does (assist, light, or both). Check there if the behaviour seems odd.
Can't find it?
Lights never come on: [Light] is set to 'not connected' in E-TUBE Project, or the lights have their own power. If the setting is ON and the lamp stays dark, check the front connector.
Frequently asked
Can the lights be permanently on?
Yes, via the [Light] setting in E-TUBE Project if the brand did not lock it.
The button changes assist instead of lights.
Button mapping is configurable; set it in E-TUBE Project.
Do lights drain the battery?
A few watts, well under 5 % of range.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
