Change assist mode on a Shimano STEPS EW-EN100 and customise levels in E-TUBE Project

Shimano STEPS EW-EN100 junction (no display) + E-TUBE Project app

With no display, the assist mode is shown by LED colour. Changing the mode is a button press; changing how strong each mode is happens in E-TUBE Project.

Step by step

  1. Switch on. Press the EW-EN100 button briefly to step through modes: the assist LED changes colour (off = OFF, green = ECO, orange = TRAIL, blue/purple = BOOST on most firmware). If a SW-E7000 switch is fitted, use its Y/X buttons instead.
  2. To customise: connect E-TUBE Project (see pairing) and open [Customize] > [Assist].
  3. Pick each mode and set assist character / max torque / assist start where offered.
  4. Tap Apply and keep the phone close until the app confirms.
  5. Ride and repeat. You can also switch profiles from the app on EP8-era units.
Tip: Take a photo of the LED colours after you know what they mean; you will forget which colour is which within a week.

Can't find it?

Button changes nothing and the LED stays one colour: the switch (SW-E7000) may be defined as the assist control in E-TUBE, or the junction is in an error state. Check E-TUBE Project for an error code.

Frequently asked

What do the EW-EN100 LED colours mean?

One LED shows battery (green > orange > red), the other shows assist mode by colour. Exact colours depend on firmware; the app shows the mapping.

Can I set assist strength without the app?

No.

Is a switch required?

No, but a SW-E7000 makes changing modes while riding much easier.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
