Dapu error 23: Abnormal motor hall signal detected
The controller has seen a constant or abnormal hall signal from the motor for longer than it expects. Hall sensors tell the controller where the motor rotor is, so a stuck or scrambled reading means the controller cannot drive the motor safely. As a result the system cuts motor assist, the speed readout drops to zero, and walk assist is disabled until the fault clears.

| Severity | Dealer needed |
| Keep riding? | Do not keep riding |
| Typical cost | A new motor cable typically runs €30-€80 fitted, a replacement controller €120-€250, and a complete motor €250-€500 fitted depending on the bike brand and motor type. |
Likely causes
- Motor cable pinched, chafed or cut where it enters the frame or at the swingarm pivot
- Corroded, wet or loose pins in the motor or controller connector
- Motor stalled under heavy load or on a steep hill
- Worn hall sensor inside the motor
- Bent or pushed-back pins from a previous disconnection
- Water ingress after washing or riding in heavy rain
How to fix Dapu error 23
- Stop riding, switch the system off and remove the battery.
- Visually inspect the motor cable along its full length for cuts, kinks, pinch points and chafe, especially where it passes through frame grommets or near the dropouts.
- Unplug the motor cable at both the motor end and the controller end, check the pins and sockets for corrosion, moisture or bent contacts, then dry and reseat firmly.
- Confirm the motor spins freely by hand with the bike off the ground; a seized motor will re-trigger the fault.
- Reconnect the battery, power up and ride briefly on flat ground to see whether the code returns.
- If error 23 still shows after the cable and connectors are confirmed good, hand the bike to a dealer for controller or motor replacement.
Warranty: A genuine hall sensor, controller or motor failure inside the usual two-year warranty window is normally covered as a component fault, while crash damage, pressure-wash water ingress and worn connectors are treated as owner damage and excluded.
Typical cost: A new motor cable typically runs €30-€80 fitted, a replacement controller €120-€250, and a complete motor €250-€500 fitted depending on the bike brand and motor type.
Frequently asked
Can I reset dapu error 23?
Switching the system off and back on will clear the code once, but if the hall signal fault is still present it will return within seconds. A reset alone does not fix a damaged cable, connector or sensor.
Is it safe to keep riding with this error?
No. The controller disables motor assist to protect itself, so you are riding an unpowered heavy bike, and continuing with an intermittent hall signal can overheat the controller or damage the wiring.
What does the repair usually cost and is it warranty?
Expect €30-€80 for a cable, €120-€250 for a controller and €250-€500 fitted for a new motor. Within the first two years a genuine component failure is usually covered, but water damage and crash damage are not.
