King-Meter error 25: Brake signal stuck active
The display is receiving a constant 'brake applied' signal from one of the brake levers, even when the lever is released at the bar. As a safety response the controller cuts motor assist and walk assist, so the bike rolls freely but will not power up under the rider. The speed and assist readings can also drop to zero until the signal clears from the system.

Likely causes
- Brake lever not fully returning to rest because of a sticky pivot, stretched return spring, or misadjusted reach
- Failed brake cut-off switch inside the lever unit, often from wear or impact
- Loose, corroded, or wet connector at the lever, the harness junction, or the display
- Pinched, chafed, or stretched cable between the lever switch and the controller
- Water ingress into the lever switch or harness after pressure washing or riding in heavy rain
How to fix King-Meter error 25
- Release both brake levers fully and pump them a few times to confirm full travel and spring-back.
- Inspect the lever pivots; if a lever feels sluggish, clean it and apply one small drop of light lubricant to the pivot.
- Unplug the connectors at both brake levers and at the display, check the pins for green corrosion or dampness, then reseat them firmly.
- Watch the display while squeezing and releasing each lever in turn to identify which side holds the signal.
- Trace the cable from each lever down to the controller, looking for kinks, chafing against the headtube, or signs of water staining.
- If the signal stays permanent after the levers and wiring check out, take the bike to a dealer to test the cut-off switch resistance and the controller input with a multimeter.
Warranty: Brake cut-off switch and wiring faults are usually treated as component defects and covered inside the standard two-year warranty, while crash damage, pressure-wash water ingress, and worn lever return springs are normally excluded.
Typical cost: Expect roughly €15–50 for a replacement brake cut-off switch plus €30–60 for workshop time, and €80–150 if a complete integrated brake lever has to be replaced.
Frequently asked
Can I reset king-meter error 25?
There is no user reset for this code – it clears only when the brake lever switch stops sending the permanent 'brake on' signal. Powering the display off and on will not override the safety cut-out if the switch remains closed.
Is it safe to keep riding with king-meter error 25?
The bike can still be pedalled and rolled without assist, so riding home at low effort is acceptable. Avoid relying on walk-assist or motor support and fix the fault before any steep descent or loaded ride.
How much will the repair cost and is it covered by warranty?
A switch or connector repair typically runs €45–110 including labour, while a full integrated lever replacement can reach €130–180. A genuine switch failure inside the first two years is usually covered, but water damage from washing and crash impact are not.
