Bosch Smart System reset: what the Flow app can and cannot wipe

ResetsBosch Smart System (Purion 200, Intuvia 100, Kiox 300/500, LED Remote, Flow app)

The Smart System (2022 onwards: Performance Line CX Gen 4 'Smart', SX, Cargo Line, Active Line Plus Smart) stores much more in the cloud and the app. That gives you more reset options than the classic system, but also more ways to lock yourself out on a second-hand bike. Order: restart, remove phone, reset display, delete the eBike in Flow, re-register, dealer.

Warning: A factory reset via Flow or on a Kiox 300/500 wipes ride profiles, custom assist modes, eBike Lock, eBike Alarm settings and the phone pairing. Deleting the eBike from your Flow account releases it; you cannot 'take it back' without the bike in front of you. If the bike is still registered to a previous owner, no reset you do will remove that link: only the previous owner or a Bosch dealer can. The total odometer in the drive unit is not affected by any of this.

What you need

Step by step

1. Restart the system
Press the power button on the LED Remote / System Controller (in the top tube or on the bar) once to switch off. Wait 10 seconds. Press again. On a Purion 200 or Intuvia 100 the button is on the unit itself.
If OK: Error notification is gone in Flow and on the display. One-off, ride on.
If not: Same error or the LED Remote flashes red: read the error code in Flow (Diagnosis) and go to the Smart System error page for that number. Keep the phone screenshot.
2. Full power cycle
Switch off, remove the battery (PowerTube: unlock, pull out; PowerPack: unlock, lift off). Wait 30 seconds. Refit, switch on. If the bike has a second (dual) battery or a range extender, remove both.
If OK: Clean boot, no error.
If not: Error persists: it is active. Do not keep cycling. Continue to identify whether it is a display, app or drive problem.
3. Unpair the phone
In Flow: Settings › My eBike › Connections › remove this phone. On the phone: Bluetooth › forget 'Bosch eBike ...' entries. Restart the phone. Reconnect from Flow with the bike switched on and the LED Remote nearby.
If OK: App connects; settings sync. Not a bike fault.
If not: No connection: check Flow is allowed Bluetooth and location permissions, and that the bike is not still paired to another phone (Flow shows 'connected to another device').
4. Reset the display (Kiox 300 / Kiox 500 / Intuvia 100 / Purion 200)
Kiox 300/500: Settings › System › 'Reset display' or 'Factory reset' (wording depends on firmware); confirm. Intuvia 100 and Purion 200: Settings menu › 'Reset' restores units, language and trip values only. Displays restart and re-sync their settings from the System Controller.
If OK: Display back to delivery state; language and units re-selected.
If not: Display keeps looping, is blank or does not react: try another holder position, clean the contacts, and if it still fails a dealer replaces it. It cannot be repaired at home.
5. Factory reset the eBike via Flow
First switch off eBike Lock and eBike Alarm in Flow (Settings › eBike Lock / Alarm). Then Flow › Settings › My eBike › 'Reset to factory settings'. Write down custom modes first. Confirm; the system restarts. Ride profiles, custom modes, Lock, Alarm and pairings are wiped. Odometer, firmware and the registration to your Bosch ID stay.
If OK: Strange assist behaviour, a stuck custom mode or a corrupt profile is gone.
If not: Still faulty: it is not user data. Look at the error code; the reset was the last user-level option.
6. Delete the eBike from your Flow account (selling or transferring)
Flow › Settings › My eBike › 'Remove eBike' / 'Delete eBike'. This unlinks the bike from your Bosch ID and disables Lock and Alarm. Do this with the bike present and switched on so the change is written to the System Controller. The new owner then registers it in their own Flow.
If OK: New owner's Flow shows the bike as 'new' and can register it.
If not: New owner sees 'this eBike is registered to another user': the removal did not reach the bike (bike was off or out of range). Repeat with the bike switched on. If the old owner cannot be reached, the dealer has to do it.
7. Re-register the eBike
In Flow: '+' › Add eBike › switch the bike on › confirm the pairing code on the LED Remote / display. Flow pulls the firmware state and offers an update if one is due; install it while you have Wi-Fi and a charged battery.
If OK: Bike registered, firmware current, Lock/Alarm optional.
If not: Registration refused: previous registration still active (see above) or the System Controller has an internal fault. Either way, dealer.
8. Dealer reset with DiagnosticTool (unlink, error memory, firmware)
The dealer connects DiagnosticTool 4 / the Bosch eBike Service portal, verifies ownership (frame number, receipt), can release the bike from a previous owner's account, read and clear the drive unit and battery error memory, reset service intervals and re-flash firmware.
If OK: Bike released and clean. Register it in your own Flow.
If not: Dealer will not unlink without proof of ownership: correct behaviour, it is an anti-theft measure. Get the receipt or the previous owner's confirmation.

Frequently asked

Does a Bosch Smart System factory reset erase the odometer?

No. Total distance stays in the drive unit. It also does not erase the firmware. It erases profiles, custom modes, eBike Lock, Alarm and pairings.

I bought a used Bosch Smart System bike and Flow says it belongs to someone else. Can I reset it?

Not from your side. The previous owner must remove it in their Flow app with the bike switched on nearby, or a Bosch dealer can release it after checking the frame number and proof of purchase.

Can I clear error codes in the Flow app?

Flow shows the codes and explanations under Diagnosis, but it does not clear the stored error memory. That stays with the dealer's DiagnosticTool, on purpose.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
