Changing the speed unit on a Tongsheng TSDZ2 VLCD5, VLCD6 or XH18 display

Tongsheng TSDZ2 VLCD5 / VLCD6 / XH18

The stock Tongsheng displays keep a km/h–mph item in the settings list. It is a display-only setting; the TSDZ2 controller keeps working in km/h.

Step by step

  1. VLCD5 (4 buttons): switch on, then press and hold the i (mode) button for about 3 seconds until the settings list appears. VLCD6 and XH18 (3 buttons): hold + and − together for 2–3 seconds. Menu layout differs by firmware, so navigate by the item names below.
  2. Step through the items until the unit item shows: 'km/h – mph' (VLCD5), 'Unit' (VLCD6) or 'KM/MI' (XH18).
  3. Change it with + / −.
  4. i (or power) moves to the next item; + / − change the value; hold i (VLCD5) or + and − (VLCD6/XH18) to save and leave.
  5. Check the riding screen label.
Tip: The XH18 shows the unit as a tiny 'MPH' segment top-right; if it is off, you are in km/h. On some VLCD5 firmware the unit item is the first one after the wheel size.

Can't find it?

No settings at all when holding i: on the VLCD5 the i-hold must be done with the display already on and the bike stationary. On the VLCD6 with 'power' on the + button, hold + and − with a short press of power first. If the item really is not there, the firmware is a dealer-locked variant; the TSDZ2 open-source firmware (with the 860C/SW102) offers it.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
