Switching the light output and backlight on a Tongsheng TSDZ2 VLCD5, VLCD6 or XH18

Hold + for 2 seconds: the TSDZ2's 6 V light output switches on and the display backlight goes to night mode. Backlight brightness is a settings item on the VLCD5.

Step by step

  1. Switch on. Hold + for about 2 seconds; the light icon appears.
  2. Hold + again to switch off.
  3. Backlight level: VLCD5 (4 buttons): switch on, then press and hold the i (mode) button for about 3 seconds until the settings list appears; step to the backlight item (1–5 on the VLCD5) and set it. i (or power) moves to the next item; + / − change the value; hold i (VLCD5) or + and − (VLCD6/XH18) to save and leave.
  4. The VLCD6 and XH18 have on/off backlight only, tied to the light toggle.
Tip: The TSDZ2 light output is 6 V and about 1 A maximum; use 6 V e-bike lights only. It comes from the same 2-pin connector on the motor that the OEM light plugs into.

Can't find it?

Icon on, no light: the 2-pin lead is unplugged or the light is 12 V. No icon: the OEM firmware hides the light function, or the + button is worn.
