How to change and customise the three assist levels on a Mahle X35 or X20 (iWoc + app)
Mahle uses three levels shown by the iWoc LED: green (1), orange (2), red (3), plus off (white). The X20 lets you tune each level in My SmartBike; the X35 allows tuning on newer firmware only.
Step by step
- On the bike: press the iWoc button once to step Off > 1 > 2 > 3 > Off. The LED colour shows the level.
- With a Pulsar display or the app, the level also shows as a number.
- In the app: connect, open the bike, tap 'Assistance' (or 'Motor settings').
- Set 'Power' (percentage) and 'Response' for each level; the X20 also has 'Torque' per level. Save.
- Presets 'Eco', 'Standard', 'Sport' are quick options.
- Reset: 'Default settings' in the same screen.
Tip: For the X35 (250 W, 40 Nm) set level 1 to 35% for long rides; level 3 drains a 250 Wh battery in about 40 km.
Can't find it?
If 'Assistance' is missing, your X35 is on old firmware or the bike is added as shared; the level count is always three, it cannot be changed.
Frequently asked
The LED shows blue.
Blue is walk assist (X20) or battery status; check the app.
Can I have five levels?
No; three is fixed.
Assist feels weak in level 3.
Check tyre pressure and that the rear light connector is not shorting the system; then update firmware.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
