Speed limit on a King-Meter J-LCD, SW-LCD, K5345 or SW102 and the law

King-Meter J-LCD / SW-LCD / K5345 / SW102

Aftermarket King-Meter displays show the assist cut-off in the Advanced menu ('Speed Limit' or P3 on some firmware); OEM bikes lock it at 25 km/h.

Step by step

  1. Switch on, then press and hold ▲ and ▼ together for about 2 seconds. J-LCD and K5345: the first setting flashes (wheel size or backlight). SW-LCD (small 2-line): hold ▲ and ▼ for 3 seconds. SW102 (tiny 3-button): hold + and − together. Menu order differs by firmware; use the item names.
  2. From the basic settings screen hold ▲ and ▼ again for 2 seconds to reach Advanced; enter the code if asked (1919 or 0512 are the published defaults).
  3. Step to 'Speed Limit' / 'MAX' and set it with ▲ / ▼ (12–40 km/h typical).
  4. Power (short press) moves to the next item; ▲ / ▼ change the value; hold ▲ and ▼ (or wait 10 seconds) to save and exit.
  5. Test on private ground, then set 25 km/h (EU/UK) or 20 mph (US Class 1/2) for the road.
Tip: Legal assist cut-off on public roads: EU and UK 25 km/h (15.5 mph) with a 250 W nominal motor; USA 20 mph for Class 1 and 2, 28 mph pedal-assist only for Class 3 (state rules vary). Raising the limit above that turns the bike into an unregistered moped: no insurance cover in a crash, police can confiscate it, and the motor warranty is void. Keep the higher setting for private land only.

Can't find it?

Item shown but cut-off unchanged: the controller has its own limit or a speed-limit wire. No Advanced menu: OEM firmware, dealer tool only.
