Changing the speed unit on the older Bafang C961 and C965 displays

Bafang C961 / C965 (older BBS displays)

The C961/C965 have a short settings list; unit is the second item on most firmware. Two presses and it is done.

Step by step

  1. Switch on, then hold + and − (up and down on the C961) together for about 2 seconds until the settings screen appears.
  2. The first item (Backlight / brightness) flashes. Press power briefly to move to the next item.
  3. The unit field flashes: km/h or MPH (C965 shows 'Unit: Metric/Imperial').
  4. Press + or − to switch.
  5. Press power to move on, then hold power (or select Exit) to save and leave.
  6. Check the riding screen: km/h or mph next to the speed.
Tip: On the C961 the settings order is Backlight → Unit → Wheel Size → Speed Limit → PAS levels → Exit; on the C965 the same items are in a vertical list with names. Cycling past the last item saves automatically.

Can't find it?

If the display switches off instead of saving, you held power too long on the C961: a 1-second press is enough. If the unit will not change, a start-up password is enabled; enter it first.
