Start-up password and service code on the Bafang C961 / C965
The C965 can require a 4-digit code at power-on; the service code 8018 opens the Advanced menu on stock firmware. The C961 has no start-up password on most builds.
Step by step
- Switch on, then hold + and − (up and down on the C961) together for about 2 seconds until the settings screen appears.
- C965: step to Password → Enable, enter four digits with + / −, confirm each with power, repeat to confirm.
- To remove: Password → Disable, enter the code.
- Advanced menu (C965): from the settings screen hold + and − again for 2 seconds; enter 8018.
- Advanced holds Wheel Size and Speed Limit on locked units; edit, then Exit.
Tip: These codes are published in the manufacturer manuals and on every dealer forum; they are not secrets, but the settings behind them can make the bike illegal or damage the drive, so change one thing at a time and note the old value.
Can't find it?
Forgot the start-up code: no handlebar reset. BESST at a dealer or a new display (C965 displays are cheap second-hand). Codes 1919 / 0512 are for other display families and do nothing on Bafang.
