Changing the number of PAS levels on a Bafang C961 / C965

Bafang C961 / C965 (older BBS displays)

The C961 offers 3, 5 or 9 levels; the C965 the same plus level 0. It is the PAS item in the basic settings.

Step by step

  1. Switch on, then hold + and − (up and down on the C961) together for about 2 seconds until the settings screen appears.
  2. Step through with power until the PAS / Level item flashes (after Wheel Size and Speed Limit).
  3. Choose 3, 5 or 9 with + / −.
  4. Continue to Exit and confirm.
  5. On the riding screen press + until the level stops climbing.
Tip: The C961's bar graph has 9 segments; in 5-level mode it lights 2 segments per level, which confuses new owners but is normal.

Can't find it?

If the item is missing, the OEM fixed it. On BBS01 kits with the C961, 5 levels is the factory default.

Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
