Ananda error 36: Motor hall sensor signal fault
The controller has detected that the signal coming from the motor's hall sensors is missing, noisy or out of range. Hall sensors tell the controller the exact position of the rotor, so without a clean signal the controller cuts power to protect the system. On the bike this shows up as no pedal assist, no throttle response, no walk assist and a stationary speed reading, even though the display still powers up normally.

| Typical cost | Expect roughly €15–€40 for a replacement motor cable, €30–€60 for a dealer diagnostic, €120–€250 for an Ananda controller and €250–€500 plus labour if the hub motor has to be replaced. |
Likely causes
- Loose or unseated motor cable connector at the controller or the motor
- Corroded or wet pins inside the motor cable connector
- Chafed, pinched or broken motor cable along the frame or at the swingarm
- Failed hall sensor inside the hub motor
- Internal controller fault on the hall sensor input stage
How to fix Ananda error 36
- Switch the bike off and remove the battery before touching any connector.
- Unplug and replug the motor cable at both ends, making sure each one clicks home and the sealing ring is seated.
- Inspect the full length of the motor cable for chafing, kinks or crushed sections, especially near the dropout and the controller housing.
- Dry and clean any green or wet contacts with electrical cleaner and a small brush, then refit.
- Refit the battery, switch the system on and ride briefly to see if the code clears.
- If the code returns, fit a new motor cable first; if it still returns, the controller must be swapped and the motor bench-tested by a dealer.
Warranty: A genuine component failure on the motor, cable or controller inside the standard two-year warranty is normally covered, while crash damage, water ingress past the IP rating and worn or chafed cables are treated as owner damage and excluded.
Typical cost: Expect roughly €15–€40 for a replacement motor cable, €30–€60 for a dealer diagnostic, €120–€250 for an Ananda controller and €250–€500 plus labour if the hub motor has to be replaced.
Frequently asked
Can I reset ananda error 36?
There is no reliable owner reset. Powering the system off and back on will not clear a genuine hall sensor signal fault because the controller fails the self-check again as soon as the motor spins. A dealer tool can wipe the log, but the underlying wiring or sensor problem has to be repaired first or the code returns immediately.
Is it safe to keep riding with error 36?
No. The bike will cut assist without warning, often mid-climb or in traffic, and you can also end up pushing an unrideable machine home. Continuing to ride can also drive the controller into repeated overcurrent trips if the sensor signal is intermittent.
How much does fixing ananda error 36 cost, and is it under warranty?
Out of warranty, budget around €15–€60 for a cable fix, or €200–€500 plus labour if the controller or motor has to be replaced. Inside the standard two-year warranty a genuine electrical component failure is usually covered, but chafed cables, water damage and crash damage are normally excluded.
