Ananda error 35: Motor phase circuit fault detected
The controller has measured an abnormal condition on one of the three motor phase wires, meaning the cable or motor winding is either shorted to another phase or to ground, or the circuit is open. On most Ananda systems this triggers a safety shutdown and the bike cuts all electric assist, the throttle goes dead, walk assist stops working and the speed readout drops to zero. The display itself stays powered so the code remains visible and the lights continue to work if they are fed from the display.

| Typical cost | Plan on roughly €25–€60 for a replacement motor cable, €180–€350 for an Ananda controller and €400–€900 for a motor rebuild or swap, with €60–€120 of workshop labour on top. |
Likely causes
- Motor cable not fully seated or pins backed out at the controller end
- Damaged, pinched or chafed motor cable where it passes through the frame or swingarm
- Corroded, bent or contaminated pins in the motor or controller connector
- Water ingress into the motor cable connector or controller housing
- Failed motor winding with an internal short or open
- Damaged phase output stage inside the controller
How to fix Ananda error 35
- Switch the bike off and remove the battery before any inspection.
- Visually trace the motor cable from frame exit to motor and look for cuts, kinks, crushed sections or melted insulation.
- Unplug the motor cable at the controller and at the motor; inspect each pin for green corrosion, pushed-out sockets or bent pins and clean with electrical contact cleaner before reseating firmly.
- Check the controller connector for moisture, white residue or a burnt smell and dry or clean as needed.
- Refit the battery, power on and test; if error 35 returns immediately the fault is internal to the cable, controller or motor.
- Replace the motor cable first as it is the cheapest part; if the code still returns the controller or the motor must be diagnosed and replaced by a dealer.
Warranty: A genuine internal failure of the motor cable, controller or motor within the two-year component warranty is normally covered, while crash damage, pressure-washer water ingress and worn or contaminated connectors are usually treated as owner fault.
Typical cost: Plan on roughly €25–€60 for a replacement motor cable, €180–€350 for an Ananda controller and €400–€900 for a motor rebuild or swap, with €60–€120 of workshop labour on top.
Frequently asked
Can I reset ananda error 35?
A power cycle will clear the display memory, but if the controller still sees an open or shorted phase the code returns as soon as assist is requested. There is no override sequence for a phase fault because it is a hardware trip, not a user setting.
Is it safe to keep riding with error 35?
No. The phase circuit carries high current and a continuing short can overheat the controller, the motor or the wiring loom. The bike also runs without any assist, so it has to be pedalled as a heavy unpowered bicycle.
How much does fixing ananda error 35 cost and is it under warranty?
If the cause is a factory defect in the cable, controller or motor inside two years the part and labour are usually covered at no cost. Out of warranty expect somewhere between €25 for a cable alone and €900 for a motor replacement, plus diagnostic labour.
