Yamaha PW error 67: Motor Lead Wires Disconnected

Yamaha PW series (PW-X3, PW-S2, PW-ST, PWseries CE - also Giant SyncDrive)Dealer neededDo not keep riding

The drive unit has detected that one or more of the three motor phase wires has lost connection: yellow is the U phase, blue is the V phase, and white is the W phase. As soon as the controller sees the missing phase it cuts motor output to protect the electronics, so assist, throttle and walk mode all stop working and the bike will only roll and pedal under your own leg power. The display stays on but the speed reading will not reflect any motor contribution.

How to fix Yamaha PW error 67

  1. 1. Switch off the display, then switch off the battery at the mount.
  2. 2. Remove the battery and visually trace the motor lead from the motor housing up the down tube, looking for kinks, chafe, or pinch points.
  3. 3. Unplug the motor lead at any accessible connector, check the pins for corrosion, bent contacts or pushed-back seals, then refit firmly until it clicks.
  4. 4. Refit the battery, power the system on and confirm whether the code is still shown; if it has cleared, test with no load and then a short, gentle ride.
  5. 5. If the code stays cleared over a full ride, ride normally and recheck the display after each ride for a day or three.
  6. 6. If 67 returns, or if the lead or connector is visibly damaged, stop DIY work and take the bike to an authorised Yamaha dealer for controller or lead replacement.
  7. 7. Dealer step: replace the motor lead harness or the controller assembly as required and run a full system diagnostic before returning the bike.
Go to a dealer if: A dealer is required whenever the code returns after a power cycle or any lead, connector, or controller damage is visible, because the internal motor wiring and the controller are not owner-serviceable parts.
Warranty: Yamaha generally treats a genuine internal wiring or controller fault on the PW system as a manufacturing defect covered within the two-year warranty, while crash damage, pressure-wash water ingress, and leads damaged by poor aftermarket routing are usually excluded.
Typical cost: Expect a dealer motor lead replacement around €80–€180 for the harness plus €60–€120 labour, or €250–€450 fitted for a full controller assembly if that turns out to be the failed part.
Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.

Frequently asked

Can I reset yamaha error 67?

A display and battery power cycle can clear 67 if the disconnection was momentary, such as a connector that was not fully seated after transport. If the code comes straight back on the next ride the physical disconnection is still present and needs repair, not just another reset.

Is it safe to keep riding with yamaha error 67 active?

No, the bike should not be ridden under power because the controller has switched the motor off and walk assist is also dead, leaving you with an unpowered heavy bike on any climb. Continuing to pedal does not normally make the fault worse, but you lose all assistance and walk mode, which is a safety issue on hills and in traffic.

How much does fixing yamaha error 67 cost, and is it a warranty job?

Inside the two-year Yamaha warranty a genuine internal lead or controller fault is normally replaced free of charge by an authorised dealer. Out of warranty, budget around €80–€180 for a new lead harness or €250–€450 for a controller assembly, with dealer labour on top.
